- Published in Commercial Kitchens
Project Background
Movie Worlds Ricks Cafe Americain has this month undergone a complete renovation and offers diners an all-you-can-eat buffet including dishes from all around the world at its Gold Coast based theme park.
Client Objective
The client had a very specific objective for this floor. It had to have a very fast installation time, the ability to be laid over existing tiles and meet the requirements of a large, bustling commercial kitchen.
Client Requirements
The requirements for the floor of Ricks Cafe Americain were very specific and demanding. They included:
- Resist thermal shock, food fats, inorganic material and oils
- R12 Slip rating
- Good impact and abrasion resistance
- Excellent chemical resistance
Chosen Product
An epoxy coating, more specifically Sika Purcem 21 and 31n, was selected for installation at Ricks Cafe Americain. This product is approved for use in food processing and preparation facilities and is designed for floors that involve chemicals, wet areas such as brewing and dairy, as well as heavy-duty traffic and plant areas.
Furthermore, the Sika polyurethane cement system had the ability to be installed over prepared and sound existing tiles with foot traffic accepted in a short number of hours.Â
Overall Outcome
All this in mind, the Transitions team wasted no time in preparing the stubstrate, removing unsound tiles and installing access ramps 100mm coving and ensuring correct falls to the drains.
Installing the Sika Purcem went smoothly. The end result was a slip resistant and very functional floor, which to date has handled the trying conditions very well.
The Transitions team working long, irregular hours to ensure that this project was delivered on scheduled, in time for the busy school holiday trade.
