PanDOMO: A Seamless Solution for a Seamless Transition

Transitions Polishing and Grinding have had the pleasure of installing a panDOMO decorative concrete floor in a characterful restaurant in Albion, Brisbane recently.

The building in which the restaurant is located dates back some 100 years. This is evident in the remainder of many of the original features and characteristics. The existing floor however did no compliment this.

The owners of the new restaurant wanted to achieve a minimalistic feel that brought out the rustic charm of the old building. Additionally they wanted a seamless floor for ease of maintenance, cleanliness and hygiene. The floor that was chosen was a black stained polished concrete.

In preparation of installation of the new stained polished concrete floor, Transitions were required to remove the existing tiles and tile adhesive. Once this task was complete and the concrete slab was inspected, it was determined that the concrete simply was not suitable for grinding and polishing to the level of specification stipulated. Rather it was too soft and sandy. Furthermore, the restaurant contained four separate slabs of concrete made up of different consistencies and aggregate (stones), so a polished finish would create a very busy appearance; a contradiction to the owners initial requirements.

Due to this, it was advised that installing a decorative topping would be the best solution. It will provide a seamless finish whilst achieving a contemporary, minimalistic look and feel. After a tour of the Transitions Showroom and Design Centre, the owners of the restaurant decided on panDOMO as their product of choice.

PanDOMO is a concrete decorative topping that can be installed on either a new or existing slab of concrete. It is a very versatile product that can be tailored to meet your exact requirements, including a large range of colours to choose from. A panDOMO floor can achieve a modern, simple look and feel or alternatively it can be vibrant, funky and non-conventional.

In this particular instance, the restaurant owners chose a dark charcoal colour panDOMO decorative topping that was installed at a level of 8mm throughout the restaurant. The complete job took a period of 4 days, from start to finish, including the removal of all tiles and tile adhesives. Further on from this, the restaurants kitchen was fitted within two days of completion.

The owners of the restaurant were ecstatic with the results of their new floor. It looks fantastic and fulfils their needs in terms of functionality. The new decorative concrete floor really highlights the old charm and rustic feel of the room, which together creates a warm and cosy atmosphere for guests to dine.
